WIPIN Woman Of The Year Finalist

As a business owner I have had to learn to “shamelessly self promote.” It doesn’t always come easy, but if I wanted to make a living as my own boss, I needed to learn to tout my accomplish, share my expertise and work to win new clients. There is a way to do that without bragging, without cutting down the competition and without feeling icky.

wipinfinalHow? By being truthful. Telling the truth and sharing accomplishments are facts. If you say something like, “I am the greatest and foremost expert on all things social media and blogging that the world has ever seen?” Well, I am going to doubt that and I am going to want to see some proof. If, however you say, “As a journalist and blogger I work with clients to help them craft the messages that get their clients to notice them,” it is not a brag, it is a matter of fact statement. Can I back it up with testimonials that speak to what I do, how I do it and who my satisfied clients are? You bet I can.

Sometimes I feel that as a woman it’s harder to “brag on oneself” especially when you’re up for an award. I, right now along with 25 other amazing women in the pet industry are vying for the title of Woman Of The Year in the pet industry. The winning woman will be named at the Women In The Pet Industry Network Conference that starts today in Portland, Oregon. To say I was thrilled to have been nominated is to put it mildly. I still have to pinch myself when I look at my finalist logo that graces my email signature.

The categories under which we were nominated include:

  1. Advocate
  2. Corporate
  3. Entrepreneur
  4. Rising Star
  5. Solopreneur

I am a finalist in the Solopreneur category. The judges for the award are not in the pet industry and the winner will not be known until the announcement is made on Friday. Should I prepare an acceptance speech? I don’t know. Will I? Probably not. Why? I am in the top 25 with some amazingly talented women in the pet industry and can name a few who I believe will, and should, rise to the top. Am I over the moon to be included in their ranks? You bet! I get chills every time I think about it!

Stay tuned to see who prevails as the top woman of the year!
